In the silk industry, Kanjeevaram or Kanchipuram have long dominated. It is said that the gods themselves wore Kanchivaram silk in Hindu mythology.Under King Krishna Devaraya, expert weavers created spectacular works of art featuring local deities and temples in the village of Kanchipuram. In time the silk saris soon spread beyond Tamil Nadu's towns to cover all of Southern India and the entire world. In particular, women were expected to dress in this beautiful creation for special occasions.
